Our History
The Wallingford Chorus was founded in 1970 to celebrate the Town of Wallingford’s Tercentenary. For more than four decades, the chorus has promoted the appreciation and enjoyment of choral music in central Connecticut. The chorus is a non-profit, tax-deductible 501(c)(3) corporation which is funded in part by the Town of Wallingford Parks and Recreation, dues from its members, concert proceeds and various fundraising activities such as raffles, wine tastings, special events, donations and program ads.
The Chorus is an active member of the Association of Connecticut Choruses and American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers. We perform two concerts a year, one in December and one in May. In recent years, the members have progressed from singing light repertoires to more complex pieces including selections of multicultural works in a number of languages. Past choral accomplishments include works from the major repertoire such as Mozart Requiem, Fauré Requiem, Vivaldi Magnificat, opera choruses and songs of Broadway and Cinema.
Membership
The only prerequisites for membership in the chorus are a tuneful voice, a love of music, a commitment to weekly rehearsals and a spirit of camaraderie. Most chorus members live in Wallingford and the greater Wallingford area, but some travel further distances to participate. Our chorus welcomes all dedicated singers. Our members range in age from young adult through senior citizens. Dues are $50 per semester or $90 yearly. The dues are waived for high school students, but a $20 deposit is required on music which is returned when music is returned following the concert.
Rehearsals
The chorus rehearses on Tuesday evenings 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm at Lyman Hall High School, 70 Pond Hill Road, Wallingford, Connecticut.
